Wake Up Sid
Remember the days when bunking classes was more fun than attending it, or watching a movie was preferable over an assignment, or the days when your mind was preoccupied by certain fantasies without any knowledge of the ground realities. Wake Up Sid takes you to down to the memory lane of your graduation college.
Wake Up Sid directed by the first time director Ayan Mukherjee, throws light on the youth and their beliefs. Siddarth Mehra aka Sid (Ranbir Kapoor) is a spoilt brat who has two close friends Rishi [Namit Das] and Laxmi [Shikha Talsania], very rarely communicates with his mother Sarita [Supriya Pathak] and takes his father Ram Mehra [Anupam Kher] and all his hard-earned wealth for granted. Despite all these traits, Sid is an honest boy; sweet, funny and above all, a good friend. Aisha Banerjee (Konkana Sen Sharma) is an aspiring writer from Kolkata who has come to Mumbai to turn her dreams into realties. She meets Sid on his farewell party and they become good friends from there on. Sidâ??s life takes an interesting turn when he flunks in his final year exam.
The story is well knitted till intermission but loses somewhat after it as the storyline becomes more predictable and inclusion of Rahul Khanna track was haphazardly managed. The verbal fight among the Mehra family was superbly shot. Some emotional scene make you moist eyed. Also Kashmira Shah in a glam avatar did full justice to her small role. Anupam kher and Supriya pathak were A grade as usual. Konkana was palpable. Subtle dialogue written by Niranjan Iyenger is the USP of this film. Anil Mehtaâ??s cinematography is excellent along with the melodious music of Shankar Ehsaan Loy. All in all a good film which will strike chord with the urban youth.
