I saw the movie, it was ok.  the story is good at some level except for the weard ending. the dialogues could've been more profound because i can't recall any conversation. nevertheless, i should praise the idea of" knowing the answers" it is touching and  the beautiful views . the best character was of Irfan khan, well written and well pictured eventhough it was just a small part, then in a second place comes the young Patel where he showed a great talent. But i have to admitte that I liked the perfomence of the kids. The sound track and the music were bad and very conventional. At last I must mention a chocking scene at the movie which is when the kids lost their mother in an attack, what have disturbed me is the line " the muslims have come" and the bizzar way that they were pictured. That scene was offending, i mean the writer has no right to use this adjective(muslim) to discribe a banch of sick psycho terrorists who want to justify their actions and make it leagal behind the argument of religion. excuse me but that hurted the feelings of millions of muslims. the writer could've said simply terorrists. that was totally unprofessional.

Saw Slumdog millionair a little late, and came to the concliusion that its a good movie as far as the cinematography and techinacilities are concerned, but story wise I find a lot of loop holes. No I cannot relate to this movie at all, yes there are some parts which are so called "real" but at the end of it, this is a typical bollywood movie, with a lot of cliches.

Coming to the music Depptt maybe this is new for the west, but I guess Rahman has given much better music than this, but still I would rate the music as okish. I was particularly dissappointed by the lrics of the movie, specially the song "Ringa Ringa" and when I came to know that this was written by Gulzar, I was more dissappointed.

Overall worth one time watch

Individual ratings Additionally, you can also rate the movie on 4 individual aspects. These include Story, Cinematography, Acting and Direction. Clicking on "(show)" will make them appear on your screen. All of these are optional. You can choose to rate the movie on all of them, or maybe just 1 or you can even skip them altogether.Spoiler alert Now this is an important one. If you think your review contains any information about the movie reading which will spoil a person's viewing experience of the movie, you should select yes for it.Review This is where you write a detailed review of the movie. Try to be atleast a little detailed to make the review useful for someone reading it. If you just want to write "good movie" or "brilliant acting", then you should probably try the comments section on the movie page. Danny Boyle is the most versatile and accessible director working in cinema today. He’s as successful creating a canvas for heroin riddled Scottish youths and apocalyptic space escapades as he is ravaging London with rage infected zombies. The one thing that permeates his films is the high standard they all effortlessly achieve. Sure, there are genre specialists such as Scorsese and Romero but there are few that can effectively traverse the cinematic landscape as well as Britain’s finest.

Continuing that trend is this astonishing feel-good epic set in the vibrant and volatile world of India, and more specifically the tale of Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), a slumdog orphan who is one question away from the jackpot on the Hindi version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? But don’t think you’re about to sit through an extended version of the show, it is simply a clever framing device to tell a remarkable against-the-odds tale of Jamal’s struggle to be reunited with his soul mate.

Something of an uplifting City of God, with some comparable violence to boot, its success is made easy by the infectiously engaging performances. All incarnations of the cross generational characters are brilliantly acted. Patel in particular holds the attention as grown-up Jamal, convincing from his initial, brutal torture through to the nail-biting final question, he could be quite a find. Ayush Mahesh Khedekar as young Jamal is also a wide eyed triumph and many of the more enjoyable scenes are during the flashbacks that involve him and brother Salim getting into all sorts of mischief. An impromptu tour of the Taj Mahal and a train top montage are just two of the many, many excellent set-pieces.

Beautifully shot by Boyle, you’ll struggle to find a better looking film, not just because of the stunning locales but the way in which the visuals are balanced to be inventive yet not intrusive. A reliance on 28 Days Later shaky-cam jars, but the cheeky Bollywood style end credit sequence will only see the already face stretching smile increase some more.

Yes, it’s slightly overlong and some of the melodrama borders on cliché but you forgive it because of the romanticism of the expertly written story by Full Monty scribe Simon Beaufoy, and the powerful passion of a director crafting the best film of his career to date. This is a stunning movie.

i just wondered once before seeing the film as to what made people overseas love this film...and after seeing the film i have come to the conclusion that these people are not even fit to judge a film... i mean why shud hollywood shamelessly target india like this..i know what they have showed is the truth but sometimes truth does have its own boundaries and they shud not cross them. if they can show the indian culture in such a bad manner then even indian directors should come up and show how good is american culture i mean english culture where we see sex is given the topmost preference over marriage, people have kids even before they marry...a sixteen year old girl gets pregnant. and so many interesting topics would easily comeout.....overall i wud say this is a BULLS**T film..even the performances were not that great with the exception of the child actors...and rahman's music is just ok in the film..ok i know he is one of the greatest music directors but his work in this film is below average... they could have considred jodha-akbar,yuvvraj which had mindblowing music..... and finally my humble request to the foreign audience is please do not think that the india seen in slumdog millionaire is true india... if u want to see true india PLEASE COME TO INDIA.  the film just deserves two ratings for the brilliance of the child actors and not for anything else

Slumdog Millionaire Movie Review - GaLa

Hear we go. A Hollywood movie directed by Danny Boyle with the stars of Bollywood. The movie stars Dev Patel, Anil Kapoor, Irrfaan Khan and more. Unfortunately, I dont know the name of the leading lady. The movie takes you to the dark side of India, THE SLUMS. The movie has a very unique storyline that an uneducated boy from the slums participates in a game show called "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" and reaches to the final question. However, when the show goes off air for the night the contestant is accused for cheating. Danny Boyle has directed the movie brilliantly and the proof is the movie conquering awards at Golden Globe Awards. Dev Patel, The Leading Lady, Anil Kapoor and Irrfaan Khan have done a brilliant job. A R Rehman has taken the movie to a step further. The music is simply rocking and mixture of western, eastern, desi and other genres. On whole, it's a fantastic movie to watch. No doubt the long length of the movie might be a disadvantage but its a movie that should not be missed.

Slumdog Millionaire opens the rotten face of India, does it? Does it show the so called “dirty underbelly” of India? Slumdog word is racist as alleged by a chap from Bihar. But really?? If I had one word to describe these comments it would have been a *beep*!!

By no means this movie is aimed at showing the chronic poverty of our nation. Many reviewers have criticized this movie for showing only the dirty reality of the country instead of displaying all those swanky buildings, glittering malls etc.

Slumdog Millionaire narrates a story of 2 siblings & a girl, who rise from the dirty slum life and move into different directions of life. The older brother (”Salim“-played by Madhur Mittal) ends up working for a gangster, the girl (”Latika“-played by Frieda Pinto) ends up as a show girl with the same gangsters and the hero of the movie the younger brother (”Jamal“-played by Dev Patel) ends up living a rather straight life as a tea server in a call center. Jamal reaches the “hot seat” of Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by an arrogant quizmaster Prem Kumar (Anil Kapoor) who don’t want him to win the game. He calls the police to get Jamal Malik arrested on the charges of fraud at the end of day 1 of the show. At the police station Jamal is tortured first by the sound thrashing from Constable Srinivas (Saurabh Shukla) and then he is subjected to electric shock, all to make him speak about how a tea serving slumdweller can give the correct answers.

The movie revolves around the dingy slums of Dharavi. The heaps and heaps of garbage, dogs with flees, young Jamal jumping in a pit full of *beep* (*sic*), hindu-muslim riots, pimps, gangsters, rough language is some of the few characteristics of the film which together with the superb cinematography by Anthony Dod Mantle makes it an ultra realistic movie. Kudos to the director Danny Boyle and co-director Loveleen Tandon for the impressive direction and superb camera takes which shows the minutest of the details of the dirty slum life. The screenplay was outstanding.

Acting:If I had to rate the performance of the characters I would surely give a high five to the children artists of the movie. Almost half of the movie shows them and their acting was very natural and realistic. Dev Patel was fine too. Frieda Pinto didn’t had too much of the screen time but delivered good performance. Anil Kapoor was cool. Irrfan Khan as the deadly cop together with Saurabh Shukla gave the top performances together with the child artists. Mahesh Manjrekar was looking a real gangster. He was rough, bad and whatever you may call a gangster. Madhur Mittal as the older brother Salim was quite good.

Sound/Music: Well the music has so many nominations for the Oscars what more can I write!!??!!
The sound effects were superb. The background score was creepy good. “Jai Ho” track comes at the end of the movie. The song is classic but I doubt whether it would take away the oscar. Let’s hope for the best. A.R Rahman proves that he is the best in this field!

The movie has been given an “A” certificate and rightly so. It has some good amount of strong language, violence in the form of riots, torture, a child being blinded with hot syrup (something), murder and other such things happening in the slums. These violent scenes are quite chilling and tense.

Overall I would recommend this movie to every person who has a tag “Indian” attached to him/her. A detailed insight into the murky life of slumdwellers. Slumdog Millionaire is one of those movies which has a happy ending. And out of the 10 oscar nominations it would bag atleast three i.e in “cinematography”, “editing” & for the song “Jai Ho”. It is a perfect edge of the seat thriller wrapped in the ghostly realities of slums.
Hightly recommended.

I saw this movie recently. N plzzz not a pirated copy.
This movie is a must-needed movie for Indian Audiences....truely an excellant piece of work.

Perfect selection of artists even the child artists. Music is subtle yet pumping. Rehman is the only Gud Musician we hv i guess. Story is too gud, n directed flawlessly by Danny Boyle...giving us a reality check abt the harsh truth of Mumbai. Its an eye-opener too for the level of corruption goes in this reel world. Its an eye-opener for few indian directors too.

Do Watch It. Though i dont hv to tell it cos m sure there are still ppl in this world who appreciates flicks like this one.

Very gripping story based around$ urban slums (NOT the real India)

Overall Rating

OK, so I was very eager to see this move after reading all the online blog wars between celebs. My take? Its a great move, very gripping, and very well made. My only fear is that westerners will be sucked into believing that this is the real India. Which could be a big problem - given that they already know so little about India. The movie is a "masala" film without all the bollywood songs. Its a well made movie... but it would be worth saying again that its a very over exagerrated fiction about slum dwellers in Mumbai. Yes, many of the things we see do occur - but not in such a highly magnified way and not in such a high frequency in any single slum dwellers life. Its a very clever use of slums and gangsters in Mumbai ... but again far from reality. Well made.... but (westerners specially) do not get sucked into believing this is the real India. You can get the slumdog millionaire download torrent from here.

This movie is definitely one of my favorite movies. Because half of the actors were sincere and Danny Boyle make them look so beautiful. Loved the story loved the music from A.R. Rahman the musical maestro. First i heard that the cast of the movie were all Indian or N.R.I.'s that what it took me to look forward of the movie. Dev Patel delivers a strong performance i was blown away. Anil Kapoor the host of the ''Who want to be a millionaire'' was really good in his first Hollywood movie. One things is for sure this movie will not be ignore at the Oscar ceremony because its so real and so touching at the same time. Danny Boyle amazed me who's is gonna believe that he is the same director of an horror movie year's ago he is an great director and his movie is really touching and heart warming for ever

Danny Boyle's phantasmagorical affair ...!!!
Dec 31, 2008

Author: Animesh chaturvedi Compliment the user
Overall Rating
Danny Boyle's phantasmagorical affair ...!!! Occasionally chilling and frequently delightful in its artifice.....A crowd pleaser Somehow the hype build around the movie and for the fact that I watched a screener version and that too so many weeks after the release.....compound to the fact that I present a distract from the spellbound splendor that is being associated with Boyle's work. Take a breather now:) For starters lets us not think it is fashionable to write a pitch down just to seek attention. I would say I have seen much better. I found the movie brilliant in patches but still I didn't find the pace consistent and screenplay was a bit contrived at times. It seemed that from frame one you were being cajoled to witness a fairy tale. It didn't work for me. A lot of the movie works for the brilliance by Lovleen Tandon with the portions done with the kids. Some terrific camerawork by Anthony Dod Mantle, great colors and frames and he has done excellent work. I won't say this surpasses Last King of Scotland but the challenges were so different this time and he has given such brilliant colors, so kudos to him and I am looking forward to his next work. AR Rahman does a great job, a lot of the gripping moments are aptly highlighted by the brilliant background score. As for actors, Salim worked for me, the kids were brilliant but the sad part was the protagonist. Come on Danny how on earth you could not get a Indian boy to play that role, such pronounced British accent by Dev Patel took away the Jamal I wanted. You build it up so nicely and then you drop it ..phew. The director wanted to present an outlook on Indian slum life but lacked a fresh take on the whole affair. The treatment was trite in portions and you felt strongly that this film was made by a non Indian. In the end nor the characters neither the folklore come out stronger, it seemed Boyle was more concerned pandering to liberal sensibilities. In some scenes you really find yourself witness to some old gimmickry which you seen before. The plot is quite interesting but at times the whole mushy romantic story with a bout of destiny puts you off but somehow Boyle holds it with his ecstatic direction in portions. The start and the climax are wonderful, aptly said to be "It is written" but such moments were few. The screenplay is more an amalgamation of east and west , Hollywood and Bollywood masala. Simon Beaufoy does a decent job after "The Full Monty" to adapt Vikas Swarup's novel Q&A. I still feel the narrative lost out as we got too much muddled with a lot of cliches. So definitely a crowd pleaser . I would prefer a Salam Bombay or City of God any day over this movie. Do watch them once you are done with this movie and you might like to agree.
