The first of the series Sarkar, ended on a note that said, the best is yet to come! I'm glad, that Sarkar raj too ended on a similar note. Might have gone unnoticed, but not many Indian films hold up the stories above the super stars in it. This one did. The character mattered here and the story mattered, not the actor. I'm hoping that this will be no Mihir Virani bouncing back from his coffin after a public outcry, in favor of the bouncing cash boxes. I'm hoping that that the story knows where it's headed. It seems to have a direction and a purpose. The story is fast paced, moving quickly through the events. The dialogs are snappy, usually short, intense and effective. Catchy ones at that. I'm saying it again, but the speed is unmistaken and intensional. "Sarkar" built up the story with a base conflict but not the primary one. "Sarkar raj" moved ahead with addressing a more primary conflict - yes you can fight your internal battles and win a fort, but how do you hold the fort. How do you rule? This movie delt with that question. ANd it left viewers unanswered! Abhishek held the fort - took over the reins from Amitabh, came forward as a visionary. He moved with a spirit of a warrior, rather a king. He, as the upholder of the interests of his people, is completely focused and nothing and noone can stand in the way of his honest and well placed intentions for his people. He was stronger than his predecessor. He was a greater visionary. He was even more focused. But even heroes know when to be scared. He didn't. For those who haven't seen it, I'd recommend it as a good watch.
I also suggest that this movie is not a complete story. This movie seems to be part of a preplanned triology - a series of three movies - no more - a la "Rocky". Or the writer has done a super job at continuation. Watch it after you watch Sarkar, if possible back to back. Watch it for Abhishek, for an impressive reflection of power shifting from one king to another, and feel a vaccum at the end waiting to be filled. So deep is the vaccum, you'll ache for a moment there - for the next "Sarkar". - om puneet saraf |

Hey you all the Filmy Fanatics……………By Popular requests and a huge Public Demand…………UD’s Back as always BETTER THAN EVER ….:D…..this time also with something you’ll remember for a long time………….Movie Reviews of SARKAR RAJ and SHURYA and MERE BAAP PAHELE AAP and Also Music Reviews of Janne tu ya Janne naa…………. And Ada by the all time greatest musician and the living legend……MR. A R Rahman…And this is not all…I am also offffering you with the prievew Second Most Awaited movie of this year after Dashavtaram by Kamal hasan……> DRONA… Starrring Abhisheik And Priyanka…………… So are you ready to be rocked???????????????? Well……….Sarkar Raj…. One of The Most Awaited movies for me this year…. And this was the movie I was really excited to see first day first show…although I watch almost every movie first day itself….;)…..hahhhaa.. Now…Sarkar Raj….. In two Words…. “ Emporer Rules….”… you must hgave got the idea whom I am talking about…?????? Yeah it’s true it’s the GOD of Indian Cinema…..MR. Amitabh Bachchan….byt his rtealtion Abhicheik is A Prince and my goodnesss has he given the performance of a lifetime or what…..!!!.....Just read the follwiing paragraphs and you’ll bow down to these Father Son Duo…for sure…. Ø Story : Everyone who has seen Sarkar will agree to the fact that it’s a movie which comes once in a lifetime. Wonderful direction, brilliant performances and most importantly, excellent climax and lots of such other factors made Sarkar truly remarkable and unforgettable. And therefore one would expect Sarkar Raj, Sarkar’s sequel to be much better. But unfortunately, Sarkar Raj is surely going to disappoint a lot of viewers who will be going for it with skyhigh expectations. Sarkar Raj scores mainly in the first half. The introduction of news characters, the problems arising-everything was done in good old true Ramu style! In fact, there’s not a single moment in first half which is boring or uninteresting. Even the culmination of the first half was powerful. However, the movie takes a bad turn in the second half. Agreed that the sequences in the second half were shocking but they were completely unacceptable. The climax was powerful too but the impact made by the prequel Sarkar was much more while Sarkar Raj hardly makes any impact. Prashant Pandey’s story was primarily good but he falters in the later part of the story. Ø Dirction : Ram Gopal Verma’s direction was great no doubt but it won’t be wrong to say that he lost a golden chance. Post-Aag, he had suffered severe criticism. With Sarkar Raj, he could have redeemed his lost prestige and respect, but sadly that won’t happen. And the only reason for it is the unacceptable happenings in the second half (I would not like to reveal it). Because of it, the film hardly makes any impact. Kya yaar Ramu!!!......Aapko pata nahi hum log kitni hadh uske deewane hai?..... Ø Cast Performance : Now comes my favorite part….. This movie belongs to One Man Abhisheik Bachchan except the Climax….which was completely swept away by the Gretest Actor born on this planet…I hope you get it…;)…..Performance-wise, each actor leaves a mark. The best among them is without a shred of doubt Abhishek Bachchan! If Sarkar belonged to Amitabh Bachchan and its climax was dominated by Abhishek, here it’s the opposite-this movie belongs to Abhishek and the climax is dominated by Amitabh! Abhishek does exceptionally well in some scenes. Time and again, he has proved that he is one of the best and his performance in Sarkar Raj very well proves it! Amitabh Bachchan’s role can be termed as a ‘supporting role’ since the movie belongs to Abhishek. But though, he does a great job. And as I said he dominated the climax in which he gave a powerful performance! Another notworthy performance from a Legendry actor! Now this I really wanted to skip but I can’t be biuased in the most etioc work I ever do in my life that is my writing….. so here it is. ewwwww Aishwariya Rai is the surprise of the movie! She looks great in formal dresses and she gives a brilliant performance. Watch out for her expressions and performance in the last 25 minutes. Aishwariya Rai has proved her capability by giving mind-blowing performances in the recent past. Her performance in Sarkar Raj is another feather in her cap! Way to go, Ash! Rajesh Shringapure as Sanjay Somji was terrific. He shines, especially in his first two scenes! Though his look is similar to that of Raj Thackeray, it doesn’t seem that comparison will arise between the two because of the nature of Somji’s character. Govind Namdeo as Hassan Qazi was quite funny and did a great job! Sayaji Shinde also did a great job but he gets overshadowed due to the presence of so many characters. Upendra Limaye as Kantilal Vora does a great job, especially in two scenes (his entry scene and the party scene). Victor Banerjee was okay. Dilip Prabhawalkar as Rao Sahab was terrific. It was difficult to identify him and viewers will come to know that he is Dilip Prabhawalkar only by his voice! Tanisha does a great job. She is a talented actress but sadly isn’t getting many roles. Supriya Pathak didn’t have anything to do in the movie. Ravi Kale as Chandar (Sarkar’s right hand man) does a great job like he did in Sarkar. Others were alright…. Ø Music : Bapi-Tutul’s music was good only in one song ‘Jalwa Re Jalwa’. Amar Mohile’s background score was brilliant, especially the ‘Govinda’ track! Again I would say you would many a times come across the scenario where the focus id given on the story and cast performance and other technicals the music is left behind…but Back Ground Musi Rocks….Just here it in Full Volume in 5.1 . Digital Sound…..alas………just mind blowing……… Ø Technicals : Amit Roy’s cinematography was very unusual but helped the movie to give a raw look. In fact, his cinematography was better than in Sarkar. Allan Amin’s action was as usual fantastic! Dialogues were quite sharp. However, the best dialogue in the movie is “Mantralaya mein bandaro ne utpaat machaaya!!”….hahaahhaa that’s damn Funny….Just Like Anthu’S comments!!!...haahhahaha Ohhh Goshhhh. My hands are tired now…..hahaahaha……I am damn sure you must have also skipped something from above….hahhhaha…..don’t worry my part is finished here….Stil the movie is really a must watch for those who likes good cinema……..Reallly Emporere Rulezzzzz UD…. |

Sequels are dicey business. No matter how much you improvise on your new script, you cannot escape comparisons. And when you attempt a sequel of a critically acclaimed film that's a huge box-office grosser as well, it's akin to walking on a tight rope.
Most importantly, post Ramgopal Varma Ki Aag, Ramgopal Varma was everyone's favorite punching bag [till Tashan dethroned Rgv Ki Aag]. "Finished", "spent force", "has-been", "Pack up" were commonly used terms for RGV.
Now here's great news! Sarkar Raj supersedes the prequel and most importantly, RGV bounces back like never before. If you felt Shiva and later Satya were his finest efforts, you've got to watch Sarkar Raj. An outstanding film in all respects, this film has all it takes to emerge a major success story at the box-office. |

a terrific movie.......though it comes no where close to sarkar. kaun kiska baap hai???? wasnt dis asked wen sarkar released??? well i think amitabh has answered it well in this movie.....he is the undoubted Sarkar of bollywood. the movie seems pretty dull in the first part.......even da 'go-vin-da' and 'saam-daam....' cant seem to have the hair-raising effect as in sarkar. post tanisha's death though da film makes u sit up n take notice. brilliant performances by everyone.....even tanisha!!!! n as for RGV.....no one comes close to him wen it comes to films of this kind. take a bow sir......wat abt rgv ki aag did someone say??? well u hav an unusually good memory...time to move on. all in alll sarkar raj is good......brilliant script, screenplay, acting, technical works.....etc. abhisheks power dat exuded frm da screen in sarkar is missin...but den its papa B's film all da way..... waitin for da third part......wonder who'll be playin chikoo???? |

I was never a great fan of RGV especially his films post Naach, I always thought he was overrated just on the basis of three or 4 of his previous films . But Ram Gopal varma has finally redeemed himself with Sequel of Sarkar . yes , the man who gave us some gems like Rangeela , Satya , Company is somewhat back to almost his best with his latest political movie . Sarkar Raj a follow-up to Sarkar is definitely a better movie & a larger one from script point of view . the story of a father & a son whose position as a political powerhouse is challenged after they support a power plant project headed by a foreign company of Anita & the tribulations & losses the family has to face is brilliantly scripted . It is the script & screenplay alongwith the twist & the turns that make the movie a superb watch . Taking examples from things that happened in Nandigram , the Raj Thackrey incidents Ramu creates a pulsating Political drama & takes risk no other filmmaker would dare to take . there are twists & turns that keep u on the hook all the time . full marks to the screenplay writer . But the film does have some problem from the execution point of view . though RGV shows some of his old sparks in the initial portions right from The two B & the Bahu entrance scene to the scenes of Dilip Prabhalkar to Rajesh’s excellent outburst scene & kidnap scene until the superbly executed Tanisha death scene , it is from here that his post NAACH fascination with camera angles & long pauses betwee Dialouges continues . this is exactly why the pace the film has so nicely maintained slows down considerably in these periods . a film like this should have a well maintained pace.. but what saves the movie are the alarming twist & turn right from the shock one to the surprising one (should not reveal them ) . this is where the latter poirtions scores heavily . The film also has some superb performances from the Outstanding Big B to The Brooding Abishek but the scene stealers are Aihwariya Rai who gives a superbly restrained performance & the brilliant Dilip Prabbahalkar . the supporting cast is good as well from Govind Namdeo (menancing) , Victor Banerjee ( sophisticated) , to Rajesh ( a brilliant Debut) to everyone even the man playing Abishek’s sidekick with no single dialogue is superb . a little complaint is the wastage of the superb Supriya Pathak in the movie . The Cinematography is brilliant & different from the usual one we expect from a RGV film , the background score is loud at times , Dialouges are well written , screenplay is tight & superbly bold , the costumes go with the look of the movie . At the end hopefully RGV’s Sarkar Raj is a reincarnation of the filmamaker that will make us forget his duds from Naach to Aag |

POWER CANNOT BE GIVEN, IT HAS TO BE TAKEN!
And then begins another power packed classic from Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) that he is so renowned for (Satya, Company). This movie has everything- Amazing lead characters, equally efficient support, a level of photography expected from such a movie and of course - 'GO-VIN-DA, GO-VIN-DA'- hair-raising music. I was so impressed that I forgive RGV for his attempt to remake 'Sholay'.
The story picks up where the 1st part ended i.e. the Godfather-esque Subhash 'Sarkar' Nagre (Big B) is growing old and his only living son (you know why ;-) ), Shankar (Abhishek) is running 'Things'. "Dad, Main Sambhal Loonga" - the line used more than once in the movie says it all - power in the hands of the son and comfort shown by the father as a result. You really don't have to watch the 1st part to enjoy this one as the characters are well introduced and, wherever required, a flashback to the 1st movie helps.
An international firm wants to build a power plant in a village controlled by Subhash Nagre and approach him with a proposal which would remove 40,000 villagers from their homes. The project build is led by Anita (Aishwarya). The father gives in when the son believes the plant will benefit the villagers in the long run. Moments where the father-son are discussing the matter make you hold your breath for more. Opposition to the project is inevitable. Now begins the game where campaigning for the good is met with hard resistance and results in violence which results in more violence and so on and so forth. The plot thickens...
This is where you start getting jolts of shock running through you. Information like there are individuals above Sarkar or backstabbing occurs from within the family resulting in death or Big B's anger in the 2nd half of the movie are just examples. Most parts of the movie leave you guessing for quite sometime which is always fun.
Character portrayal by Big B is clearly shadowed by Abhishek in this movie. Aishwarya's role involves lots of heavy tears. Emotions on display do not look fake in the movie. Sarkar is crestfallen about Shankar so truly as if he were really his son (Ahem!) and Aishwarya cries for Shankar so instinctively as if she were really linked to him romantically in real life (Ahem! Ahem!).
Not to forget any of the supporting characters who provide the humor in this movie very efficiently. They have been blended into the story which cannot run without them. The manner less but extremely humorous deputy Chief Minister has been portrayed with a big heart and Mr. Vohra's singing makes you wonder how would Sarkar kill this guy. Qazi is another important character who has the usual plot of destroying Sarkar and Shankar in mind.
Technically, this movie has one of the best photographed sequences ever shot in bollywood. Try following your head with the camera movements and you will have a neck sprain as I do now and thats not a bad thing, thats the beauty of it. The lighting used in the movie is completely natural and it is unique. The one scene that sticks to mind is when Shankar blows up the transformer with his car, walks towards the enemy with a white light behind him and there is smoke around him. One scene though was not required i.e. a riot sequence that was created in oppostion to the building of the power plant. Also, a scene where you can see the production spotlight in the glares of Qazi. But, one forgets quickly (I guess not).
Another mention has to be given to Amar Mohile's background score. Trust me and go to a cinema where the sound is great (PS: Adlabs) or you won't be able to live off the experience of that thundering music!!
At the end of the movie, I did not speak for a few minutes and when I did say something, it was 'AMAZING'. I actually wondered at that point what came first - the story or the tagline? I guess thats another one of those 'chicken or egg' questions. I will not be surprised if the team found the tagline 1st and then built a story around it.
Watch this thriller-minute ride which lasts just a little over 2 hours! A classic criminal thriller!!! |

Why do we watch movies? Why some movies are good and some are bad? I think the answer is we want to have a different experience in those 90-180 min movies. We wish to forget our regular world and pray that the storyteller of the movie grabs all our senses and takes us into a different world all together. If a cinema does that its a good cinema, if it fails, its not one. It is as simple as that. Why did Sarkar connected us to the protagonist Nagare family so much? Why do we feel the power should be with Sarkar, why do we feel he shall win? This is another aspect of good and bad cinema. The characters of the movie shall fulfill some underlying wish of ours which is hidden deep inside. We like the dialog “Muze jo sahi lagta hai, main woh karta hun” because we get a pleasant shock out of it. It is a mixed feeling like “Can anyone live life like this?” and “Can I do something like this?”. It is the hidden wish of a person to be able to say so which Sarkar DOES! That is what connects us to that character. Whenever such connect happens, it is a good cinema. If it doesn’t, its a bad one. While narrating the story, the magicians of cinema weave a new wonderland for the “Alice” in us. In this process, they create some symbols, some protocols, some new identities which becomes rituals for us. If there is bound to be a sequel of the story, we hope it shall not destroy those symbols, shall not deviate it self from the protocols which the first movie created and has set in our mind. If the story of the sequel properly manages the balance of keeping the symbols, protocols, identities intact and still surprises us with a new experience (which we want at least as good as first), the sequel is good. It it fails to do it, it is bad. Why I am getting into all this before actually writing the review? I will reveal it at the later part of the review. ----- Please read detailed further review on www.bollywoodreviews.net and i need ur comments there... because i am very concerned about this movie and this review * Prashen H Kyawal |

RGV abuses his audience. He truly needs to go back to watching a few more Hollywood movies for his SO-CALLED INSPIRATION. 1. The background score was over used and it simply was played over and over again... killing the basic motive of background music. 2. Aishwarya Rai was a terrible addition to the film simply because her presence was not felt. 3. It took Abishekh 2 minutes to get over his dead wife & 2 month old unborn child. It is tragic to see RGV abuse a true gangster film by injecting a love plot at the wrong point. 4. Ash was not required to sit through the climax. She should have been shipped out when Abhishekh gets shot. PLEASE DONOT ABUSE THE VIEWERS BY OVER USING OVER HYPED ACTORS & ACTRESSES. WE ARE NOT NAIVE TO IMMATURE FORMS OF ART. Yes you can see I am very dissapointed. There was a good story there but a terrible execution. PS: This movie has many many many technical errors which upset the viewer. Movie has unexplained breaks.... it seems like they simply shot the film in shade darkness and shadows for mere effects.... its abusing creative talent. Abhishekh is always on the cell phone and when he is not he looks as if he needs to visit the loo... he looks constipated. Supporting actors are the only good thing. Please my fellow Indians... I am not biased or against Indian cinema but simply upset to see our films not meeting minimum standards of a quality production house. Bollywood is the biggest movie house in the world but we deliver crap. Please think before you hate my review. Anyways screw urselves if u dont like me. |

Finally i have seen Sarkar Raaj yesterday, as i was expecting that the movie is too good to watch, it didn't dissapoint me for a second. Many Thanks to RGV for making a such a come back were i have been fan of RGV cinema for so long and was dissapointed with the type of movies of were churning out from RGV camp, But from this movie RGV have bounced with a bang. All the Character in the movie were terrific, Specially the back ground score from Amar Mohile is out standing. AMITABH BACHCHAN, ABHISEKH, AISHWARYA, SHAYAJI SHINDE,GOVIND NAMDEV,DILEEP PRABHAWALKER WERE TOO GOOD, OUT STANDING PERFORMANCE, OTHERS TOP NOTCH PERFORMANCE. IT'S 100% OUT STANDING MOVIE TO WATCH, ITS BETTER NOT TO REVEAL THE MOVIE AS IT IS DAM'N GOOD PAISA WASOOL MOVIE. IN OTHER WORDS ITS A BRILLIANT RGV CINEMA. |

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Govind Namdeo, Tanisha Mukherjee, Victor Banerjee, Supriya Pathak Direction: Ram Gopal Varma Production: Nitin Chandrachud, Abhijit Ghatak, Praveen Nischol Written by: Prashant Pandey , Ram Gopal Varma With Sarkar, Ram Gopal Varma had precisely established the central characters, set the ambience, defined the aura and demarcated the genre. So in the follow-up he simply had to take the legend ahead while narrating a new episode. And to a decent degree he succeeds in carrying the legacy forward. In the second installment, Sarkar aka Subhash Nagre (Amitabh Bachchan) takes a backseat as son Shankar Nagre (Abhishek Bachchan) takes hold of the family empire. An NRI industrialist Anita Ranjan (Aishwarya Rai) approaches the Nagre family with a power plant project to be set in the local lands of Maharashtra under Sarkar’s domain. After initial reluctance, Sarkar gives a go ahead to the venture which soon takes shape of a political conspiracy. Ramu’s storytelling pattern is such that he initially builds up the drama and subsequently breaks down the politics behind the play. He effectively employs all the original techniques from the predecessor by making use of the same theme for the background score (Amar Mohile), caustic editing pattern (Amit Parmar, Nipun Gupta), sepia tone effect and erratic camera angles (Amit Roy). But while adhering to the original, he occasionally, also sets up repetitiveness in the screenplay with similar setup and shot execution. For instance he sketches a group of negative forces absolutely analogous like the villain quartet from Sarkar with identical intentions to crumple the Nagre kingdom. Reprehensibly their caricature characterizations do not gel with the solemn temper of the film. Sayaji Shinde hams endlessly while Govind Namdeo and Upendra Limaye are consistently theatrical, appearing more as comic sidekicks. To an extent, even the screenplay is moulded in the vein of the forerunner film when Shankar wages a political war against his opponents. But the treatment is twisted as Ramu reverses the roleplay of the father-son duo in this film in clear contrast to the format adopted in the earlier episode. While the father takes a backseat in the initial reels giving authority to son, he grabs charge of the proceedings in the concluding portions. Like in Sarkar, Ramu sharply balances the role runtime of both the father and the son justifying the collective presence of Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. But he simultaneously swaps their zones of prominence thereby bringing a variation in their contribution. Despite drama being the highlight, the texture is subtle throughout. From a political war, the film intermittently shifts track to a regular revenge drama till it arrives to a volatile climax that forms a highlight of the enterprise, escalating the entire graph. Sarkar Raj clearly gains major marks for its clever culmination, which was so much lacking from recent RGV products. The considerately and crisply penned dialogues by Prashant Pandey add a lot of insight to the scenes and depth to the characterizations. From the cast, Aishwarya Rai plays a mere spectator to the scenes than a participant to the politics. She is her usual self and her act doesn’t seem to be sculpted by the RGV touch. The other two Bachchans have exhaustive scope and completely submit to Ramu’s visualization. Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan, once again, employ the intensity of their piercing eyes to give sight to Ram Gopal Varma’s distinctive vision. Verdict: Sarkar Raj was widely heralded as an homage to the Godfather trilogy, though director Ram Gopal Varma refutes comparisons, describing Sarkar Raj as “the new adventures of the Nagare family…. showcasing the aura of power.” |

Starts a little dull, picks up speed gradually until the climax when it just whips you!! Great storyline, even better than the prequel. AB and his baby show their prowess, in scenes where they are together, as well as when they are not. Aishwarya manages to portray an outsider's view of the Family. She can act, as she has proven time and again, it's just that she needs a director who can guide her. The background score was a little intrusive, though. And we could have done without some of the erratic camera movements. It's would be criminal to watch it on the TV; i would suggest watching it on the big screen, only then will it have the desired effect. |

Watched sarkar raj just now. I found it little lacklustre compared to the hype and hoopla around the movie. The story was just okay - at some places it was little unrealistic, but had a decent climax. Acting wise, cast was okay. nothing fabolous, but nothing bad also. At times the background score was too loud and unreasonable. The movie also had too much of stereotype RGV - loud music, the sets, the camera angles - little too much :) Watch it - if you have spare time during the weekend... |
