Ghajini basically is a movie of emotions, love and violence. The story considers some of the famous stars as Sanjay Singhania [Aamir Khan], Kalpana (Asin Thottumkal), Lakshman (Pradeep Rawat) and Sunita (Jiah Khan). Sanjay Singhania is a rich tycoon suffering from short term memory loss due to being hit by a metal pole when trying to intervene on his girlfriend's murder; as a result he was injured on his head and was suffering from short term memory loss. He was indeed looking for his enemy Ghajini who killed his beautiful lover Kalpana. Kalpana is a kind hearted young lady ,a day when Sanjay was in his car waiting on a signal ,looked out there was a girl helping handicapped children across the street ,Sanjay was impressed and fell in love with her ,he never knew that it was Kalpana had lied at her office that he was in deep love with her ,though both knew nothing about each other or have seen .
A day Sanjay comes to know that the girl he was in love with is Kalpana whose bluffed everyone about her affairs ,he feels very happy and starts approaching her as a normal middle class person though he was a rich business man. He never disclosed his identity to her that he is Sanjay Singhania. A time comes when he conveys his love towards her and asks her to answer if she does love him or not. Next morning Kalpana tells that she is also in love with him and from here a wonderful love story begins. But fate played totally different role when she was travelling in a train to Mumbai, she found some of girls kidnapped by Lakshman (Pradeep Rawat) group members. Kalpana save them but the same gang members will come to her home and kill her when Sanjay comes and try to save her Ghajini hits with a metal pole on his head and he loses his consciousness.
The irony show cased is that Kalpana never finds out that he is Sanjay. Sanjay survives the blow, but acquires anterograde amnesia because of the trauma of his brain injury. At any given time, he does not remember anything that happened more than 15 minutes back, although he frequently has flashbacks of Kalpana's murder. He determines to take revenge on those responsible for Kalpana's death. His story in unraveled by a police officer (Riyaz Khan) who is hunting him due to several murders he has committed while trying to find his girlfriend's murderer through his diary. His story has also piqued the interest of a medical college student, Chitra (Jiah Khan) who is searching for a patient with an "interesting" record for her college project. Chitra comes to know about Sanjay's love with Kalpana (Asin Thottumkal) a model cum activist. At the end it happens to be that with the help of Sunita, Sanjay will be able to find his enemy Ghajini and kills him the same way as he kills her girlfriend and take his revenge.
