Apart from 10 different avatars (incarnations) of Kamal Haasan, the only thing worth writing home about "Dasavathaaram" is its technical brilliance. The roles are myriad. Kamal plays US President George Bush, a bumbling RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) operative, a selfless scientist, an old hag, terrorist, Dalit activist, a medieval Vishnu devotee, a cancer-stricken Punjabi pop singer, Kung-fu martial arts expert and a 10-ft tall Muslim - not necessarily in that order. Starting with the drowning punishment of a Vishnu devotee, "Dasavathaaram", for no apparent reason, morphs into an action extravaganza - full of chases over a deadly virus involving a scientist and assisted and hindered in turn by the other characters - all played by Kamal. Asin plays a double role in the film that is a part-comedy-part-tragedy mishmash. Mallika Sherawat flits across the screen in skimpy costumes and ends up dead. While the cinematography by Ravi Varma, background score by Devi Sri Prasad and Kamal's acting are the film's highlights, the Himesh Reshammiya numbers have as much Tamil nativity as George Bush. Dramatic incidents galore are actually one of the minus points of the film, of which there are one too many. Kamal is in every frame of the movie and knowing his methods, director Ravi Kumar's role in the film seems to be seriously limited. The unsolved puzzle as to why there are 10 Kamals when one would have been more than enough remains an unpleasant hangover long after the movie. In all, "Dasavathaaram" is a movie that every Kamal fan would want to watch. As for the rest of the audience, it is the case of a Kamal-overkill.

its a pure kamalhasaan`s action first a big congratulations for kamal`s efforts released amid great expectations dasavathaaram is a huge let down other than from the effort of 10 different roles nothing stands out great onething that stood out was kamal hasaan too much of concentration on the story to bring out chaos theory made a chaos in the whole movie.. KS ravikumars direction failed to give his brand impression , it makes us feel that he is just a puppet of kamalhassan characters of asin , mallika sherawath were not utilized proper movie didnt exactly reach the pulse of the audience, as a lot left the theater missing something.... lack of understanding made the movie look like a fancy dress competition and a big question that rises among many "WAS THERE REALLY A STORY THAT WORTH WENT TILL THE COURT??" atlast "i dont say that there is no stroy but it would have been better if there is a story"

It's Kamal after all!

It's Kamal hasan after all!

This movie was bound to get reviews on both ends of the road (as well as some inbetweens - mine perhaps). Can't neglect the super effect of super stars in Indian films can we?

Having said that, the base concept of the movie, relating the past to the present and the allmighty to the smallest, is quite interesting, very creative and has been presented in the film without loss of focus. The movie holds a lot of slap stick masala in it's good 3 hrs.

The story begins with a presentation of the belief that everything is connected. Every act, every body and every moment. As the story moves on, a series of events are unfolded which spread across a period of hundreds of years (I think), from the times of ancient India to the present. The usp is how these events, rather these dots, are connected to present a complete picture.

By connecting the series of events, the initial belief which reflected how everything is pre destined, is enforced again and thus the story teller validates his/her belief. Point in case.

Ofcourse, the story has taken a back seat in the movie, in the honor of "Kamal sir". Did I say the usp was the connecting dots - my bad. The USP ofcourse was that first time in the history, an actor was doing ten different roles in one film.

Well marketed and great attempt. And a successfull one at that - the box office has had a bash!

Whether I liked it or not, I'm not sure I'd like to discuss that. My review reserves it's right to express personal views :)

After all, it's Kamal hasan!! ;)

Story
Cast Performance
Soundtrack
Cinematography

After all the hype and controversies Kamal's Dasavathaaram strikes the big screens. It is never expeted to end in a loss as those number games will play the magic.

The movie begins with Govind (Kamal 1) sharing the dais with Karunanidhi, Manmohan Singh and George Bush (Kamal 2) in Chennai and delivering an intense, though visually distracted speech on bioterrorism and saving the earth, and makes a reference to the 12th century, when Saiva-Vaishnava conflict was at its peak in South India. Rangaraja Nambi (Kamal 3) attempts to stop Kulothunga Cholan-II (Nepoleon) from removing the deity of Lord Vishnu from the famous Govindaswamy temple of Chidambaram. He also refuses to convert to Saivism. Both these acts anger Nepoleon, who orders Kamal to be tied to the deity and dumped into the Bay of Bengal.

Back to the 21st century, in Philadelphia, Govind is a biotechnologist, specialized in virology. He works in a private company which expertises in biological weapons. Govind and his colleagues have just invented a deadly airborne virus which attracts some bad elements to the company for a lucrative deal with some high authorities. Kamal finds about it just in time and takes away the capsule in which the virus is stored and fleds. The bad elements employ Christian Fletcher (Kamal 4), a former CIA agent to retrieve the capsule from Govind. Then begins the cat-and-mouse game, which brings all the players to Tamil Nadu. The other six characters of Kamal intersect this deadly game, which proceeds with a lot of blood spills before culminating in a gargantuan climax involving Tsunami.
The first half of the movie has one of the most fast-paced screenplays in Tamil films. Too many things happen so quickly that even the songs dont have the usual decelerating effect. The characters are well-etched and the story takes us through 12th century Chidambaram, modern Philadelphia and Washington DC, Japan and India. The second half drags in comparison to that and reduces the slickness of the movie. Asin's character is a huge letdown since she is downright irritating after the melodious and sweet 'Mukunda' song. She is the weaklink in the movie, and in the end, one cant but feel that her character could be done away with. The 'romance' between Kamal and Asin is the worst I have seen in any Kamal movies.
The role of Rangarajan Nambi is the most intense among all, though Balram Naidu role as the RAW officer wins the best of 10 avtars. He is so hilarious, with some very funny lines and body language. Fletcher comes next best, whereas the 'lighthouse' Khalifa is the least impressive, followed by the Japanese guy. Also, on the Avtar Singh show, the big question is, how come a Punjabi singer gets such a rousing reception and crowd in Chennai? Amazing how Kamal could appear very tall and quite short (the 'paatti' role). After the initial excitement of seeing Kamal in different roles fades away, we get engrossed in the proceedings of the movie, treating as though the various roles are played by different actors. The movie is based on Chaos theory, which states that each of the incidents  compliments others.
Dasavathaaram, is a watchable movie, just because of Kamal's hardwork. When we make a film based on scientific theories, you must make the movie sensible and logical. I was shocked to see a bullet curing cancer in the throat of the pop singer Avtar sing, who was suggested a surgery! And wow he can sing now better!Money mouth K.S. Ravikumar is not raising upto the standards and proving that he can only direct pukka local tamil comedies like Pammal K Sambandham and Thenali which was almost logicless and contentless. Music is mediocre. Sometimes, it seems like he stuffed unnecessary charecters. Mallika is wasted. I saw Bush asking "What is NaCl?" Is he a buffoon enough to forget his second standard lessons? Oh boy!
Dasavathaaram would have been a disaster, but Kamal's superb perfomances and the number games save it. Go for Dasavathaaram, it's really watchable, of course, better than Rajni movies! Never a dull moment - a fine flick.

Hey the movie is simply rocking with ten avatars.Every Frame has made very carefully to make natural.in first half of the film is very fast and the second half initail some slow and then it resume his fast.

Here some people poted his comments that film is not good.I want to ask them a question?
Do they like sivaji?
Sivaji is better than dasavatharam?

if ur answer is “yes” Then u are ugly film tasting person. If u say no then may be in ur view the film doesnot meet ur expectation ,thats it.

But film has made simply super to satisfy art lovers, graphic lovers, screen players, action lovers, acting lovers and all department.

So eventhough some pitfalls remaining film overcome and made the film as complete entertrainer.

Kamal the only actor has the ability to do like this acting. No can touch his acting.

This film proves that not only masala movie can bag multi crore profit but also some good art, entertrain movie also.

3 Songs are very good when seeing with picturising

We wish to break all collection  records of indian film. The film has the fit fot that.

Wonderful team work by dasavatharam teams, especially

Kamal

Ravikumar

Asscar ravichandran

camera man

My rating for  that is 8 out of 10Cool
