Chandi Chowk is so bad that Warner Brothers are having to do an early DVD release, at a discounted price of just £7.99, just to try and recover there losses. Don't believe me??? Check out HMV uk website and see for yourselves. As much as I like Akshay Kumar, this was a very bad career move. One of the worst films this year.
I hate to say this, but Bollywood still have a lot to learn.
The scene at the beginning where Akshay foolishly burns the lottery ticket sums up the whole film. The director lost out on a golden opportunity to make an awesome film, but instead made a film that has no identity or direction.
When you watch american films such as Pink Panther, you get an all out comedy with a good story and well balanced humour and stupidity. If you watch an action film you get a good balance of action and suspense. If you want an all out mindless beat em up you get that too. My point is that an american director will pick a theme and direction and stick to it, be it good or bad.
This film was all over the place. It was not very well planned, with very little thought or consistency. It is constantly bouncing from too much to nothing at all in minutes. NO BALANCE!!
The reason I compared this film to Pink Panther is because......on the one hand you have Inspector Cluseaux who is an idiot that saves the day by being an idiot, And on the other hand you have Sidhu..... an idiot who becomes a martial arts guru, but is still an idiot. All mixed in with a story randomly bouncing between half a dozen characters and their past and misfortunes.
It gets there in the end, but bloody hell does it drag. Foreign audiences will laugh at this drizzle in comparisom to their high budget blockbusters.
I really looked forward to this film, but I have been left hugely dissappointed.
