Read full review at my blog : CLICK HERE I wasn't expecting much from the movie. Nor waiting for it like I did for earlier release like LBC and DevD. But I thought this will be refreshing outing of 'Bolly movie' after 'different' movies in recent past. So while being impressed by red-black interiors of hall, Billu started. With some nice Title credits. Nice images and collages kind of greaphics with nice music. Hummm...this would be nice. Opening scene of North Indian village is wow. Nice location they have chosen for the movie. But as the movie progressed I was finding how to go deep into it. Cause It was so very much shallow. It was not engaging its viewers till now. Some were expecting a couple of laughs as its a Priyan's venture. But that was not there too.
Besides that, Irrfan is doing good job till now. And Lara Dutta did look marvelous. [she should be standardized for sultry village woman, she was looking equally wow in 'Mumbai Se Aaya mera Dost']. Humm..enter SRK. Suddenly we are taken to Planet Mars !! Some dazzling effects -and there, King Khan is - I knew this is gonna happen, Khan is used to play himself in his movies nowadays - and then 'press start' for the item number !!! Start !! Press Stop !! STOP !! Two scenes...........some dialogues........START !! Another IT Number !!! STOP !!
Why?? There was no need of song 'Ae aa ooo' with clippings of all SRK movies, claiming that 'He is King'. Humm...no discussions please :-). SRK comes to Irrfan's village to shoot for his movie. Villagers go frantic. In filmi way ofcourse. Larger than life. Rumours fly in village that SRK is friend of Billu. Everyone goes crazy and makes Billu their God. Now Irrfan plays this part very good, maintaining his charm and low profile. Lara and two kids also go nuts about meeting their favorite star. There, Lara was good with cute kids too. Still movie isn't engaging. I was thinking why ??? Till interval, why this movie doesn't get grip over viewers? Everything is perfect, so why?
Second half was also like this. Story moves on, but hardly any comic relief. & we get 2 more IT numbers !! Story moves on, but lacks of punch. Story itself is so very much simple, that it can't grip us or make us involved in it. Climax was good though [of course, having SRK in climax, is a worry free zone]. I was hoping that this could have been much more engaging and more involving.
Irrfan is -good [not best in this] . I never have complaint about him, in even a tiny role of his any movie. He plays his part perfect always. But problem was with character's development. Also much importance was given to SRK too. So the attetion of writer must have been divided between the two resulting injustice to Title character of the movie. Lara was very good. She looked fabulous and acted well too. Two kids were also good especially the boy 'Duggu'. Supporting cast - Asrani is just about okay. Rajpal Yadav [uff...I hate him] is average. Om Puri is wasted. This movie is very predictable in most of its parts. It does not succeed in bringing any excitement. Simply speaking the movie is a bore. For most of its parts the movies just goes on and on with our Billu the hairdresser getting caught amidst the villagers expectations, who think he is a friend of star Sahir Khan. There is nothing good abt film except Shahrukh Khan and Irfan Khan's performances. The dance numbers are execellent and provied some entertainment in this much boring and lack lustre film. The movie was supposed to be a good comedy film, but the comedy is very dry. Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, Om Puri (better than others) fail to bring a good laugh on your face. But it won't be fair to blame the actors, the direction by Priyadarshan is not upto the mark. Its not the typical Bollywood style that I am used to. The movie could have been much better if it had some more drama to it and if the story telling were more interesting. Well I like movies which have some new concept and good drama, so this movie was not for me and I did not like this movie at all. |

High budgeted special song in Kambakht Ishq February 16th, 2009 Bollywood’s Mr. Blockbuster, Sajid Nadiadwala is planning very big for his forthcoming mega venture Kambakkht Ishq which is also the most awaited release of 2009, starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor along with the who’s who of Hollywood right from Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards, Brandon Routh. The movie is being directed by Sabir Khan. The USP of Sajid Nadiadwala movies has always been its extraordinary music and this time he is leaving no stone unturned to carry on this tradition.A close source reveals ‘Sajid is currently planning to shoot a special song for his forthcoming venture Kambakkht Ishq on a rs. of 2 crore - budget set at Film city in Mumbai. Not only this, he has even planned to have UK fusion band RDB participation in the filming of the song’.
Sajid is now planning a 150 second theatrical trailer for Kambakkht Ishq. The trailer is yet to be released in cinemas but those who have seen the rushes were bowled over by its impact. The offices of both Nadiadwala Grandson and Entertainment and Eros were flooded with overnight offers for almost all territories. A Bihar distributor has already offered rs 1 crore to be the the official distributor of the film in the territory. A top distributor who had shut shop sometime back, has taken such a fancy to the film that he wants to re-start his distribution office and has offered a record price too. As he’s very that movie is going to break all the box-office record till date. A major and exclusive publicity blitz is being planned where Akshay Kumar will meet Sylvester Stallone in India. Slumdog Millionaire may have taken Bollywood to Hollywood, but for the first time, Sajid Nadiadwala is bringing Hollywood to Bollywood. Trade reports have already declared it as the most awaited release next year and what’s more, all the opinion polls on the internet have declared it as the film to watch out for in 2009. Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambakkht Ishq is undoubtedly the biggest release of 2009. - |

So here we go, Finally one of the most awaited movies of 2009 has released. Red Chillies Entertainment's next flick. Red Chillies is famous for its glamorous movies. However, Billu Barber is a very simple movie. The movie is directed by one of the greatest directors present in Bollywood, Mr.Priyadarshan. The movie stars a great deal of experts like Irrfan Khan, Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, Lara Dutta, Rasika Joshi, Manoj Joshi and Shahrukh Khan. The movie revolves around a low class family of Irrfan Khan who works as a barber. Unfortunately, he is not able to earn enough money and is unable to pay his debts. However, one day Shahrukh Khan arrives in the village to shoot for his next movie and the news of Irrfan and SRK's friendship spreads in the whole village which leads to a disastrous life for Irrfan. Everyone starts praising and respecting Irrfan and plead him to take them to meet SRK. However, Irrfan refuses because he believes that SRK might have forgotten him and he even thinks of the class gap between himself and SRK. However, in the end SRK tells the whole village about his and Irrfan's friendship and how Irrfaan used to help him in his childhood days. Now, Priyadarshan has done a brilliant job but the first half is not much convincing. It's like a train running on the same track. The pace remains the same. However, the film starts going better after the Interval. Irrfan Khan, Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Lara Dutta have done a brilliant job. Priyadarshan has directed the movie brilliantly. Although, the first half could have been better. But the climax is mind blowing. The way the climax has been handled its awesome. The climax is the part where SRK steals the hearts of people. SRK has acted brilliantly but in the climax SRK is just the best. Pritam has provided 15 great addictive tracks. Marjaani, Love Mera Hit Hit and Khudaya Khair are already blockbusters in the making.
On Whole, Billu Barber is a great family flick. It's very simple but very enjoyable. So people if you want a good movie to watch with your family then Billu will be the best choice. Strongly Recommended! |

FRIENDSHIP IS A BOND WHICH IS ABOVE EVERYTHING AND CAN LAST FOREVER IS THE MAIN PROTOTYPE OF D MOVIE. THE MOVIE IS A NEW AGE KRISHNA -SUDAMA TALE TOLD IN A SIMPLE MANNER WHICH CAN TOUCH UR HEART IF U R VALUE UR FRIENDS OTHERWISE ITS A WASTE OF TIME. BILLU(IRRFAN KHAN) LIVES IN A VILLAGE WITH THE HOTTEST CHICK OF THE VILLAGE i.e HIS WIFE(LARA DUTTA) ALONG WITH THIER TWO CHILDREN. THE PAIR SEEMS SO MISMATCHED THAT U WONDER HOW BILLU GOT THAT CHICK WELL ANYWAYS HE HAS FINANCIAL PROBLEMS AND THE WHOLE VILLAGE MAKES FUN OF HIM UNTIL SAHIR KHAN(SHAHRUKH KHAN) THE SUPERSTAR COMES TO STAY IN THE VILLAGE TO SHOOT A MOVIE WHICH LOOKS LIKE A COMBO OF DON, KRRISH, BICHHDE HUE BHAIYON KI KAHANI(70s KIND OF MOVIE), BILLU BARBER,ETC.ETC.ETC.ETC.,ETC.ETC. AND DURING HIS STAY HOW BILLU'S LIFE GETS COMPLETELY CHANGED AND BECOMES MISERABLE AN THEN AGAIN COMES BACK TO NORMAL IS THE PLOT OF THE MOVIE. IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS SIMPLE STORY, WE GET GLIMPSE OF GLAMOUR U JUST CAN'T IGNORE WITH ITEM NUMBERS FROM DEEPIKA(LOVE MERA HIT),KAREENA(MARJAANI) AND PRIYANKA(YOU GET ME ROCKIN AND REELING) AND THE BEST THING IS THAT THEY ALL LOOK AWESOME ESPECIALLY KAREENA AND PIGGY CHOPS.THE BIGGEST FLAW OF D MOVIE IS THE KIND OF HUMOUR USED WHICH HAS NOW BECOME TOO REPETITIVE, WHILE WATCHING THE MOVIE U FEEL LIKE WATCHING ANY OTHER PRIYADARSHAN FLICK LIKE HULCHUL, MAALAMAL WEEKLY TYPES AND NOTHING NEW APPEARS FOR U TO APPRECIATE. ITEM NUMBERS WHICH ARE HIGH ON SPUNK AND LOW ON CHOREOGRAPHY ALONG WITH SHAHRUKH KHAN'S COUTLESS APPEARANCES DISTRACT U IN B\W AND TAKE U TO THE WORLD OF CELEBRATION FROM THE SIMPLE WORLD OF BILLU. CINEMATOGRAPHY IS AT ITS BEST IN ALL THE VILLAGE SCENES AND THE DIALOGUES WITH A PINCH OF RURAL TOUCH ARE IRRITATING AT TIMES BUT HELP IN MAKING U LAUGH MANY A TIMES. THE MUSIC BY PRITAM CHAKROBARTY IS VERY-MUCH HEARABLE AND HAS ATLEAST ONE SONG FOR EVERYONE WITH CAPTIVATING LYRICS PENNED BY GULZAR SAHAB AND THERE ARE SOME SONGS LIKE KHUDAYA KHAIR( VOCALS- SOHAM, MONALI, AKRITI KAKKAR), MARJAANI(VOCALS-SUKHWINDER SINGH, SUNIDHI CHAUHAN) AND JAAUN KAHAN(VOCALS-RAHAT FATEH ALI KHAN) WHICH ARE REALLY FANTASTIC AND SOME FITS INTO THE MOOD OF THE MOVIE PERFECTLY. DIRECTION FROM PRIYADARSHAN SIR HAS NOTHING NEW NEW TO OFFER THOUGH ITS HIS 75th FLICK AS A FILMMAKER. OF THE CAST IRRFAN KHAN EFFORTLESSLY DELIVERS PERFORMANCE OF A LIFETIME AND IS LOVEABLE, LARA DUTTA ALSO FITS INTO HER CHARACTER AND HAS UNDENIAL PRESENCE AND ALL THE OTHERS JUST HELP IN MAKING IT A COMEDY FLICK. SHAHRUKH KHAN'S PRESENCE IN D MOVIE IS WHAT MAKES THE MOVIE SPECIAL AND IF U WATCH HIS CLIMAX SPEECH U WUD AGREE WITH ME. SO IN THE END I JUST WANNA SAY GO ON ITS A SIMPLE AVERAGE FLICK MIXED WITH FLAWS AND MERITS AND IS WATCHABLE ONLY IF U LOOKING FOR FUN OR TIMEPASS CINEMA. JUST DON'T EXPECT TOO MUCH AND ENJOY SO MUCH! |

The first part of the movie was a little over the top in some comic scenes and a bit of a drag. The movie moved to a tolerable status just before the intermission and onwards. It started with a cheeky letter asking for a loan. Whether Billu was just a simple man or a smart alec wasn’t clearly defined. After all the characters in the village Budhbudhe were introduced it too abruptly shifted to some spaceship kinda setting and SRK was introduced as the star Sahir Khan with an item number one. Billu (Irrfan Khan) is a hairdresser (trying to be politically correct) in the sleepy village Budhbudhe. His business is in a bad state owing to the entry of Modern Madan. He is the butt of all jokes, his wife (Lara Dutta) is dissatisfied and the kids have a smart mouth. But life goes on until Sahir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) and his entourage comes to the village for a shoot. Don’t understand why the people greet the movie star by throwing papers at him and was surprised to see that the roads in the village were so much better and nicely tarred than the ones here in the city. News spreads that Sahir (who wears really flashy jackets) is Billu’s buddy and he is put on a pedestal and when his attempts at meeting with Sahir goes nowhere, he is derided. Then we have the men crying - Billu for the humiliation and Sahir reminiscing about his good old friend. Then Billu goes back on the pedestal yet again and both friends have a very emotional reunion. Bring out the hankies!! SRK goes one step further and takes a dig at the whole Khan wars when pushed by the obnoxious Dubeyji. It’s an okay watch if you have some company and food at hand as the movie doesn’t really absorb you too deeply. |

Wow, after watching this, I feel like I have seen a whole new world. The weather was so cold, but watching this made my body even warmer. The movie is so excellent and don't say because it is a Shahrukh Khan film, it is beautiful because of the nice performances. Priyadarshan also did a great job transforming his mind point into such a great movie - You can tell he has visualized the movie before filming it. Billu Barber tells the story of a simple ordinary man, Bilas Rao Pardesi [Irrfan Khan], living in a small town with his wife Bindiya [Lara Dutta] and two kids. His life undergoes a drastic change as superstar Sahir Khan [Shah Rukh Khan] visits the village for a film shoot. Everything changes. Things go from good to bad to worse to good again. The story takes an interesting turn when Billu's life collides with the superstar's. And the assorted characters -- right from an aspiring poet/lyricist [Rajpal Yadav], to a stingy money lender [Om Puri], to the principal of the school [Rasika Joshi] -- everyone wants favours from Billu. These characters only make Billu more interesting. Priyadarshan is adept at handling relationships and with Billu Barber, he proves he can handle emotions with as much flourish as comedy. To tell a simple, uncomplicated story, without the usual frills, is an arduous task indeed and Priyadarshan tackles the material with remarkable ease. The humour here is subtle, not loud, and a constant smile remains on your face all through. The screenplay is gripping and the cinematography was carefully done making a wonderful job. The music is the best part of this review. I am in love with "You Get Me Rocking and Reeling", then I love "Mar Jaani" and "Love Mera Hit Hit". The music is so energetic and all the item numbers sparkle. My personal favorite is Deepika Padukone because she looks so sexy, but I love Kareena Kapoor's too because she shines and also Priyanka because she glows with finesse. "Ae Aa O" is also a great track. The entire album is memoriable. Irfan Khan is so real in his character and we all know Shahrukh did great. In fact, it is better than "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi". Lara Dutta springs a pleasant surprise. She goes through her part with complete understanding. Om Puri is excellent. Rasika Joshi is too good. Rajpal Yadav is really funny in the penultimate scene, when he recites a film song of an shahrukh film. Overall, the movie is fabulous, energetic, great performances and it is recommended highly as a family movie. It will make you smile. Just like me while writing this review. WATCH IT!
