A Wednesday !

We the common people. This is the message Wednesday sends the masses, that everything is fair in love and war. True we are a diverse country. And agreed that theres this endless war between the Hindus and the Muslims. And History has proven time and again , atleast in the case of India , that Unity was the only virtue absent in the Indian Imperials from before the time of Babur. Back to the old saying- that everything is fair in love and war. If todays generation knows anything is- is how to be selfih. so i have a suggestion. Be selfish, im noone to preach. But love yourself! If you love yourself you won't be adjusting your life around death, around terrorism. And its war against saving yourself from dying. Isnt that what we all want?To live for infinity and to be remembered in lack in white in the text books yet to be printed? voice your opinion against whats wrong and whats right.be aware. This is what a wednesday does to me. It just leaves me looking for answers, bombarding me with questions of humanity. when is enough, enough? When is it right to term something as vile as terrorism ok? How is it justified that killing is allright? And this question, is answered by the best in the business. Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher steal the show. I personally hate the Bachchan Khaandaan and SRK, but even if the intelligent masses are approached with movies like a wednesday, sarfarosh, etc; then these actors will get such a boost. Naseereddin Shah is effortless, anupam kher is a natural. can the Bachchans and SRK be like them? not even close. They just do commercial, fun movies with an overdose of what they term as acting. These are veterans to look out for. directors should consider these greats. The movie is a must see. get me one person who hates it. I will advise his parents to ship him/her to a mental ward for psychiatric checkup!

The Plot:
Unusual, Strange and Thrilling Day in Mumbai Commissioner’s Life is WEDNESDAY. Unknown caller makes a normal Wednesday as Revenge Wednesday for Police Force of Mumbai. His demand is to release four dangerous terrorist otherwise Mumbai will have to face horrifying-blasting Wednesday.
I do not want reveal more than this. Watch it and find out unexpected twists and turns!

Screenplays:
There is no taam-zam, naach-gana, pyaar-mohabbat, rona-dhona, no bollywood usual masala. It’s intelligent and effective drama which ties you at your seat. It unfolds so rapidly that you do not get a chance to think about anything. You will remain un-blinked throughout the movie to watch what happens next. It is no non-sense movie. Each scene adds value to fast moving story line. Saga gets unfolded just in 100 minutes. You even feel who needs intermission Let the movie keep rolling.

Casting:
No doubt! This is powerhouse performance by great actors Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher. They slipped into the characters naturally. It is like watching Jugalbandi between two veterans and you can’t decide who is better than whom. Deepal Shaw as a reporter did not have much to do. Aamir Bashir as a family person yet dedicated cop is honest in acting. Jimmy Shergill is fantastic. We knew he is good actor but could not believe that he can act as a rough and tough guy with his chocolate looks. Bollywood directors give him a chance and he will surely shine.

This songless movie has effective background music. Nothing much to mention.

Other:
Cameraman’s lens captured the high rises of Mumbai. But then the more emphasis of the movie is on dialogues and screenplays. Dialogues in last unpredictable climax scene questions your own existence in this unsafe India. You feel helpless as well as powerful at the same time. Watch it and just think.
Hats off to debutant director Neeraj Pandey who could dare to make such a low budget effective movie.

Suv’s verdict:
I may call it as a sequel of ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’ but with intelligent stroke. It is thought provoking thrilling drama. This movie is for those who yearn to watch some serious drama and performance. Bollywood is getting matured and glad to see that few production houses are betting on such a ‘jara hatke subject’.  It’s worth watching if you are looking for quality cinema.

I watched Hijack & A Wednesday simultaneously. so I decided to write about them them together also  . as both are made on topic of terrorism , are in essence thrillers , directed by debutants Shivdasani & Neeraj Pandey  , they have released on the same day. But there is  marked difference between the two .

   While  Pandey makes a confident debut in this gripping thriller of a man who warns the commissioner of Police that he has planted five bombs in Mumbai city & demands the release of 4 terrorist . what happens next gets u completely off guard as  u aren’t expecting this at all . saying more on  the story will take away the enjoyment of watching the movie . strengthened by a tight script & allowing no props of songs - item numbers to take the interest away  a superb  thriller is created which keeps u on the edge of the seat & the climax is bold & different . even humor is added beautifully in this one

    In complete opposite Hijack is everything that A Wednesday is not . u have item numbers , songs & the real story starts in the second half , even there the directors fails to strike as he is unable to capture any moments that the story provided in abundance . there are one or two moments in the movie that keep u interested , but they are not enough as they are spoilt by the childish handling of the subject in hand .

     The same is the case of performances in both the movie the 2 veterans are superb only Naseer has the power to keep one glued on te screen while delivering along verbrose dialogue , in fact he is so good that may in the multiplex were clapping like front benchers in the single screen. Anupam is superb & he confrontation scene between the 2 is the highlight of the show . Jimmy Shergill as the hot headed cop is a powerhouse 7 Aamir is restraint as the cop who goes by the rules , even the cameos have performed extremely well from Deepal Shaw to Vj gaurav . in Hijack Shiney is the only knight of the armour . he tries but fails to rise above the childish script , the rest would have given tough competition in SrK-Saif Nareal awards for worst performances . but one guy who would sure take an award is the main villian who hams it up big time as if he is having a toothache Wednesday is better in technical dept as well right from fiery dialogues to slick editing , it scores everywhere

     While A Wednesday is one of the finest thriller to have arrived , Hijack is just anoter average bollywoodish wso called no-brain fare .2 extreme sides of the same genre .  Mr Sivdasani take some classes from Mr pandey on script writing please & then make another movie .            

This movie was hyped very much in my part of the world,, what with special screening almost 1 week before for theCM Modi and his gang,, Why Modi ?

Khair,, the movie is no doubt belongs to the thinking genre with Black & White , Mumbai Meri Jaan , Aamir as its precursor. The movie is excruciatingly well written and well executed  ( by the standard of Bollywod flick )

Its a story of a wednesday when an unknown tech-savy and extremely intelligent man threatens to bomb the city.The chase to nab him down begins, It involves Anupam Kher as Top Cop and Jimmy Shergill.But the man is always ahead and before the climax it anti climaxed but not before driving the point home, To elaborate it further will sure spoil the movie experience.

Shah is the King. Kher delivers and so do all other charaters .The movie reminded me of Sly stallone's " The Specialist " in its sauviness of shah as a bomber and other terrorist hollywood flicks....but it does not beliitle this effort surely.

Its a movie must watch at the time when India is threatened not only by the externel enemies but also the inner one. More and more ppl are either turning into fanatics or indifferent.

So guys check it out,, its a serious cinema but with enough on-your-seat-edge-thrills.
