why did the the people of india react so badly towards that whole Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty situation?
when i heard about tha iwas so angry with the indians. i'm indian myself right so i'm not trying to discriminate or anything just in case you guys get the wrong idea! but think about it Richard Gere has done so much for the country, and then in a second it changes and people hate him. the fact that they burnt images of the two of them is pathetic i mean come on people. if you av such a problem with that then why not complain about the movies. they show scenes much worse and they're doing it for money. shilpa was right to not want to apolagise fair enough Richard Gere went overboard with the way he kissed her but it was on the cheek. he didn't rape her and if shilpa found nothing wrong with that then why are the public behaving so badly about it. you could say my point is too bias and i'm going on the side of Richard Gere but can you blame me for thinking tht sometimes the people of india overreact. if they hated that so much then tell them to talk to directors and actors about the work they do. Richard Gere is someone who unlike many cares about the people in India and wants to help raise awareness and to treat such a great caring person like that is shameful on us.

Well , I would prefer to differ your opinion, infact these protest shouldnt be there, I dont know you are aware of the scenarios in India or not, I am blaming this entirely on the media, there was a discussion sometime back that instead of reporting news the media is creating the news! well I agree with this, these type of incidents should go unreported, and even if they are reported there are some people everywhere who are just sitting idle, they dont have anything to do....good or bad.....so they come out on roads and burn effigies, some are idle enough to file a PIL (Public interest litigation), and then there are people like you and me, who give an ear to these type of news , No I am not blaming anybody, but then I too against much of my wishes ended up discussing this topic

Re: why did the the people of india react so badly towards that whole Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty situation?
the fact is that majority of the ppl who are not bothered abt this incident wont come out and speak in favor of it... its mix of "dont care" attitude to the original episode as well as the protests against it (well they might blog or post to discussion threads like me :-)... the minority who decides to file pil/ cases/ protest/ march gets all the publicity and coverage by media... but dont worry thats also short lived... as soon as the media gets another sensational news they will drop this and move on... this is constructive interference of junk bandwidth of 24x7 news channels as well as idle bandwidth of people...

see the matter is no more in news... now its subject of jokes by stand up comedians... then eventually the news will die out... perhaps this is the trajectory of every masaledaar news... from 24 hrs news channels and talk of town to once in a while jokes of stand up comedians to its natural death... :-)
