yeah.. even i heard she has been given an honorary doctorate by some UK univ. Why are brits going mad over her ?

Shilpa Shetty has been honored with a doctorate by the Leeds Metropolitan University for her outstanding contribution to cultural diversity.

Few days back Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Yash Chopra also got the same doctorate degree by same Univ (Lees Metro).

Looks like leeds metro is on a phd distribution spree.

I can understand Bachchan, Azmi and Chopra getting a doctorate. They are all legends and have a long list of achievements and a certain clout in society. What did Shilpa Shetty do? she hasnt given a hit since Baazigar in she gets tapkaoed in the first half itself..

but all of them getting a doctorate from the same univ, and in the same time frame seems fishy .. Looks like a technique for getting attention - both for the celeb and the university ..

Several reasons
1. She is 'hot'
2. She became very popular amongst British Asian community after 'Big Brother' racial issues. ( I think only Amitabh can give her fight in terms of popularity in UK).
3. (Official reason)  is to appriciate her "Contribution to cultural doversity and good relation between India and UK".
