Maestro magic at London Olympics

Channel:

In what seems to be a jewel in Maestro Ilayaraja’s crown, one of his songs has been chosen by Oscar Award winning director Danny Boyle for the London Olympics opening ceremony, which will be held on July 27.

The fast number 'Naan Thaan Ungappandaa…' from the 1981 Kamal Haasan hit film Ram Laxman, will be part of the medley that has been titled 'The Isles of Wonder'.

For fans who grew up listening to the musical wizard’s magical melodies, this is in fact a proud moment. But what baffles his fans and the Maestro himself is the selection of the song.

Though Ilayaraja has churned out a number of hits that are still a rage among the youth, Boyle has decided to go with one of the veteran’s lesser known numbers.

Although, his song has been added to the list, it is still unclear if the National award winning music director will fly to London for the ceremony, which will see Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip inaugurate the games.

The other major attraction at the London Olympics opening ceremony will be a run-up of Daniel Craig's 2012 James Bond flick, Skyfall.

The ceremony is touted to be one of the biggest in the history of games and more than four billion people are expected to watch it worldwide.
