Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra after a healthy dose of experience directing commercials changed gears when he took to directing and writing for movies.
Basics on Rakeysh
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra was born on 7th July 1963 in New Delhi, India.
He set up the Flicks Motion Picture Company Private Ltd in 1986. He is the man behind commercials for BPL, Coke, Pepsi and Toyota. Amitabh Bacchan’s music video Aby Baby was directed by Mehra.
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Movies
2001 Mehra wrote and directed Aks, a supernatural thriller starring Amitabh Bacchan and Manoj Bajpai. Though the movie was not a huge commercial success it did garner good reviews.
2006 Rang De Basanti floored critics and generated big money as it looked at the generation next taking on corruption. The movie was nominated for international awards and on home ground won the Filmfare Best Movie and Best Director Awards among many others.
2009 Delhi 6 with Abhishek Bacchan and Sonam Kapoor in the lead is said to be partly autobiographical as it captures the chaos within Chandni Chowk where Mehra grew up.
