Nikhil Advani Biography

Nikhil Advani Nikhil Advani has a love hate relationship with the box office. His movies either make it big or are unrestrained flops.

Basics on Nikhil
Nikhil Advani was born in Mumbai, India on 28th April 1971. His father was into Pharmaceuticals while his mother was involved in advertising.

He acquired a Masters’ in Chemistry from St Xavier’s College in Mumbai only to swap it for tinsel town.

Nikhil Advani’s Movies
Advani was involved in various aspects of film-making. He worked as an assistant director before moving to the hot seat, writer and producer.

He joined Dharma Productions which was headed by the late Yash Johar and currently his son Karan Johar.

He was the Assistant Director for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) both of which were blockbusters.

Under the Dharma Productions banner, he directed his first movie Kal Ho Na Ho (2003). As with all Johar productions, it had a large star cast and a larger than life setting. The cast included Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Jaya Bacchan and Saif Ali Khan. It won several awards and was one of the top movies of 2003. Advani was nominated for the Filmfare Best Director Award.

He wrote and directed Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love (2007), which was another multi starrer with the likes of Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and John Abraham. It was similar to the Hollywood movie Love Actually about the lives of different people intertwined in one tale. The response towards the movie was hot, cold and in between.

Chandni Chowk to China (2008) was Warner Bros first Hindi language film that performed dismally and was beaten down by audience, critics and other film-makers. It was a kung fu comedy that starred Akshay Kumar, Gordon Liu and Deepika Padukone. Besides getting a big thumbs down it also sparked a controversy in Nepal.

But the show must go on and Advani has two other movies to look forward to – an animated flick Ab Dilli Door Nahin with Ayesha Takia, Govinda lending their voice and Chandbhai with Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan.
