Nana Patekar Biography

Nana Patekar Raw and fierce, Nana Patekar has proved himself over and over again with power packed performances in movies like Parinda and Khamoshi.

Basics on Nana Patekar
Nana Patekar was born as Vishwanath Patekar in Murud-Janjira, Maharashtra, India, on the 1st January 1951. His father was a painter Dankar Patekar and his mother was Sangana Patekar.

He studied at the Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Arts and was took part in drama. His talents also include sketching and has on many occasions helped the Mumbai Police.

Nana Patekar’s wife’s name is Neelakanti and they have a son called Malhar Patekar.

Nana Patekar’s Movies
Nana Patekar’s first movie was Muzaffar Ali’s Gaman (1978). In Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay (1988), which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi, he played the character Baba who deals with prostitution and drugs.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Parinda (1990) won him a Filmfare and a National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. He wrote directed and acted in Prahaar: The Final Attack (1991). Mehul Kumar’s Krantiveer (1994) won him the Filmfare and National Film Award for Best Actor.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Khamoshi (1996) saw another remarkable performance as he played a deaf mute man and his relationship with his daughter. In Hu Tu Tu (1999) he played a poet Bhau while Ram Gopal Varma’s Bhoot (2003) saw him as a police officer.

He had a handful of hits with Bluff Master (2005), Taxi Number 9211 (2006) and Welcome (2007). In 2009, his releases include Ek - The Power of One, It’s My Life, Yahan Ke Hum Sikandar, Paathshaala, Horn Ok Please and Rajniti.
