Kiran Rao made headlines when she married actor Aamir Khan.
She worked as an assistant director on the sets of movies like Swades (2004), Saathiya (2002), Monsoon Wedding (2001) and Lagaan (2001). Lagaan made it to the Oscar race and she worked with Aamir Khan, who played the lead role in the movie.
Aamir Khan divorced his wife Reena Dutta, with whom he has two children and married Kiran Rao in a low profile ceremony on December 8th 2005. They later held their wedding reception in Panchgani where they are said to have met and fallen in love.
Rao has produced movies like Taare Zameen Par (2007) starring Aamir Khan and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008) which had Aamir’s nephew Imraan in the lead role.
She is currently working on Dhobi Ghat (2009). She is the writer, director and producer of this movie.
