Atul Kulkarni Atul Kulkarni is an award winning actor often seen in weighty roles in movies like Chandni Bar, Rang De Basanti and Delhi 6.

Basics on Atul
Atul Kulkarni was born on 10th September 1965 in Belgaum, Karnataka, India. His father was a businessman and his mother was a home maker living in Solapur, Maharashtra.

He went to school in Solapur at the Haribhai Devkaran High School. He completed his twelfth standard at Junior College, Belgaum and stayed to pursue Engineering. But his lack of interest in the subject made him move back to Solapur. Eventually he graduated in English Literature from D.A.V College.

He was a part of a theater group in Solapur called Aradhana. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Dramatic Arts from the National School of Drama.

He has been actively involved in theater and seen in plays like Samudra, Natak and Zale Mokale Aabhal.

Atul Kulkarni’s Movies
Atul Kulkarni’s first movie was Bhoomi Geethe in Kannada. He won a National Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Hey Ram (2000) in which he played Shriram Abhyankar. In 2001, he played the part of a gangster in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Chandni Bar (2001) with Tabu, which won him a second National Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

He worked with Madhur Bhandarkar again in Satta (2003) in which he was seen as a politician. In the commercially successful Khakee (2004) he acted with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgan.

Madhur Bhandarkar’s Page 3 (2005) was critically acclaimed. It starred Konkana Sen Sharma. Kulkarni played a crime reporter in the movie teaching Sharma the ropes. In Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti (2006), he performed his role as Laxman to perfection.

He accepted parts in different language movies like Kedi (2006), D 17 (2008) and Valu (2008). In Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s Delhi 6 (2009) he portrayed the character Gobar, a timid man with limited beliefs, while he played a terrorist Kenny in Anjan Dutt’s Chowrasta: Crossroads of Love (2009).
